CLINICAL MICROBIOLIGIST (Patients Care)
Remuneration: N1,800,000 – 3,000,000 pm (plus more attractive benefits, depending on skills and years of experience)
Location: Victoria Island, Lagos
We are currently looking to bring on board a clinical and patient-care microbiologist for a Global Hospital Group, functioning as a Medical Laboratory Scientist specializing in microbiology.
- Analyses clinical samples
- Diagnose infectious diseases
- Guide antibiotic treatments, and
- Support hospital infection control.
You will work in this well established and reputable hospital and their diagnostic laboratories
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Sample Processing: Collect, receive, and process patient specimens like blood, urine, sputum, stool, and wound swabs.
Pathogen Identification: Culture, isolate, and identify bacteria, fungi, viruses, and parasites using microscopy and biochemical assays.
Antimicrobial Susceptibility: Perform sensitivity testing to determine effective drug treatments against specific infections.
Clinical Consultation: Partner with doctors and nurses to explain test results and advise on complex infectious disease management.
Infection Control: Monitor hospital-acquired infections and implement safety protocols in line with national health guidelines.
Diagnose Infections: Identify pathogens from patient samples using culture, staining, and molecular tests like PCR.
Guide Treatment: Determine antimicrobial susceptibility to choose effective medications.
Consult on Care: Advise medical and ICU teams on severe or unusual infections during rounds.
Control Outbreaks: Track and manage hospital-acquired infections and public health threats.
KEY REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS) with a microbiology major, or a degree in Microbiology plus specialized medical laboratory postgraduate fellowship / certification.
Licensure: Mandatory current registration and practice license from the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN) or the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) for medically qualified doctors.
Skills: Strong knowledge of biosafety standards, laboratory quality management systems (ISO 15189), and automated diagnostic equipment.
