Location: Lagos Island, Lagos, Nigeria

We are currently looking to bring on board a well experienced and skilled ICU Intensivist who is a specialise physician, responsible for the comprehensive, evidence-based care of critically ill patients, leading multidisciplinary teams to manage organ failure, complex diseases, and trauma. To perform advanced, invasive procedures, oversee 24/7 ICU operations, and provide palliative support while improving patient outcomes in high-stress environments.

 

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical Management: Provide 24/7 care, diagnose, and treat critically ill patients, including managing multi-organ failure and life-threatening infections.

Advanced Procedures: Perform intubation, mechanical ventilation management, central line insertion, chest tube thoracostomy, and ultrasound-guided procedures.

Team Leadership: Lead daily ICU rounds, coordinate care with nurses, specialists, and pharmacists, and mentor junior staff and residents.

Protocol Development: Ensure adherence to ICU clinical protocols, safety standards, and best practices to optimize patient outcomes.

Counseling: Provide direct, sensitive communication to patients and their families regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, and end-of-life care.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

Education: Medical degree (MD/DO) with specialized training in Internal Medicine, Surgery, Anesthesiology, or Pediatrics.

Certification: Board certification in Critical Care Medicine via a 2-3 year fellowship.

Skills: Exceptional diagnostic skills, proficiency in invasive procedures, high stress tolerance, and effective communication.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Duties involve diagnosing, treating, and preventing diseases of the digestive system (esophagus, stomach, intestines, liver, pancreas, gallbladder) through patient consultations, complex diagnostic procedures like endoscopies/colonoscopies, creating treatment plans with medications, collaborating with other specialists, and performing advanced endoscopic interventions, all while staying updated with the latest GI research and practices.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Patient Evaluation: Conduct physical exams, review medical history, and order tests (blood, imaging, biopsies) for digestive issues.

Diagnosis & Treatment: Identify and manage conditions like IBD, IBS, ulcers, liver disease, GI cancers, and polyps.

Procedures: Perform diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopies (gastroscopy, colonoscopy, ERCP, EUS).

Treatment Planning: Develop tailored plans, prescribe medications, and oversee patient progress.

Collaboration: Work with nurses, PCPs, and other specialists (oncologists, surgeons) for coordinated care.

Education: Provide clear explanations to patients and participate in teaching medical students and trainees.

Research: Stay current with new treatments and best practices in gastroenterology.

CORE SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS:

Medical Expertise: Deep knowledge of the GI tract and its organs.

Technical Proficiency: Skilled in operating endoscopic equipment and EMR systems.
